On the Road for Climate Action chronicles the journey of Harvard-trained environmental scientist Shahir Masri as he travels across America to document the climate crisis now at our collective doorstep. Masri and his partner interview multigenerational, forward-thinking farmers, document damage from record-breaking natural disasters, take notes from tenacious climate activists, and speak with everyday people trapped unwillingly under the ferocity of our evolving planetary condition. As the science becomes viscerally real along the way, they also discover reasons for hope and inspiration fueled by the ingenuity and resilience of those living on the edge, as the torch of climate action is carried forward by thousands of citizens, each contributing toward this one universal cause.
Combining on-the-ground research, firsthand interviews, and science-based memoir, Masri personalizes the imperative for climate action now by shining a light on the stories told by the communities living on the frontlines and the experts behind the science. He highlights not only the environmental changes around us, but the societal changes required to avert future climate catastrophe as we face the mountain of evidence bearing down upon us.
Dr. Shahir Masri is an associate specialist in air pollution exposure assessment and epidemiology at the University of California, Irvine, where he studies environmental pollution and exposure modeling. He is also the founder of Masri Research & Consulting, through which he collaborates with community partners, nonprofits and other groups in order to investigate and reduce contamination of our food system, neighborhoods and work spaces. Dr. Masri earned his Doctor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the Department of Environmental Health at the Harvard School of Public Health, and his Bachelor of Science degree from the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
