Listen, Run, Hide

The first lockdown drill book designed for use in the classroom and home, Listen, Run, Hide gives adults the language needed to make a challenging conversation easy.

With input from top experts in school safety in the United States, this book teaches a version of the FBI’s protocol Run, Hide, Fight using the following age-adjusted principles:

1. Listen and follow the directions of the adults around you;

2. If a grownup is not around, run to a safer place; and

3. After running to the safest place possible, hide.

Join Willa and her parents as they role play the various things she can do at school (or elsewhere) to stay safe in an emergency - including the ones that are unusual because nothing is more important than her safety. 

This book provides a framework for offering critical instruction and support to a child who is growing up in the midst of a gun violence crisis.

Emily Romrell uses her elementary education background and her firsthand experience as a mom to create picture books that teach children about safety. Her work has been used in homes and classrooms across the United States to make tough conversations easier.

Melanie is a mixed media artist and illustrator inspired by nature, childhood wonder, and playful color. She lives in Michigan's Upper Peninsula with her husband and daughter, where she creates heartfelt picture books, whimsical coloring books, and joyful art for her online shop.

Katherine Schweit worked as an FBI Special Agent executive, a prosecutor, and a journalist before settling down as a full-time writer, professor, and security consultant. She lives in a home in Virginia that is too big for her, just west of Washington D.C.
